Ondatrópica is a seven month musical journey from the home of Discos Fuentes in Medellín, Colombia, to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The project, led by Bogotano Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero) and Londoner Will Holland (Quantic), will bring together a stellar cast of Colombian musicians to record an album and form a band to represent Colombia at the Cultural Olympiad.
Over the past two weeks Ondatrópica has taken over Discos Fuentes’ legendary studio, the mecca of Colombia música tropical, recording with a host of musicians from across the country.
The guest list reads like a who’s who of Colombian music: Michi Sarmiento, Fruko (Fruko y sus Tesos), Anibal Velasquez, Don Mario Rincón (Los Corraleros de Majagual), Esteban Copete (Ancestros) and Wilson Viveros amongst many others. Yesterday they even hosted Chilean MC of the moment, Ana Tijoux.
Alongside these great photos, you can check out a really fantastic set of videos on the site which chart the whole recording process through interviews with the various collaborators (Spanish language). The recording will be followed by the formation of a live outift, Los Irreales de Ondatrópica, uniting young and old musicians from the project for a worldwide tour planned to end at the London 2012 River of Music celebrations in July.
